************************************************************ DEDICATION OF St. ANDREW'S COURTYARD
It was a beautiful evening to dedicate the newly landscaped courtyard and gardens. A community event held on Chelan's First Friday August 6, the members of St. Andrew's were joined by Mayor Bob Goedde, Historical Downtown Association President, Terri Holme-Neilson, Larry Hibbard, Architect and Morgan Picton. All spoke briefly to the crowd and expressed appreciation for the downtown garden. We were also joined by members of St. Luke's, Wenatchee; St. James, Brewster and St. James, Cashmere.
The crowd of about 70 also joined in a service of dedication officiated by The Rev. Linda Mayer and The Rev. Doug Cockbill. They were assisted by Sadie Reynolds and Macaela LaPorte. Readings were given by Pat LaPorte, Hannah Hubbard, Liz Perry, Judy Oliver and Joan Hazelton.
Prior to the dedication a spaghetti dinner was served to members of St. Andrew's and the visitors from Wenatchee, Cashmere, Brewster, and wonderfully prepared by Barb Sutor and Judy Oliver. Jane Farris, Nyla Kamphaus, Larry and Joan Hazelton also were very busy in the kitchen.
During dinner Senior Warden, Linda Cox, made a special presentation to her "angels" that were responsible for the beautiful grounds and gardens that have risen from the empty space left after removal of the annex and rehabilitation of the church. Those honored with small angels of their own were; Larry and Joan Hazelton, Judy Oliver, Rudy Mayer, Pat LaPorte, Nyla Kampaus and Susan Fiala who was unable to attend.
The dinner followed by the dedication service was a fitting tribute to all those who had contributed in many ways to the completion of the courtyard and columbarium garden. We were delighted to have Fred Rarden, and Dick Ward Jr. join us. Each in their own way help make the gardens come to fruition that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

Vestry Notes August 12, 2010
In a departure from the usual venue, the vestry met at the cabana of Linda and Rudy Mayer along with other members of St. Andrew's. A reminder that the meetings are open to any in the congregation.
The financial report showed that income and expenses are close to budget. But we need to keep costs down as much as possible.
The Senior Warden reported that six members of the vestry have met with the vestry of St. Luke's to discuss the direction of both congregations.
Compline to end the meeting was led by Barb Sutor.

Who was St. Hildegard of Bingen? 1098-1179 Saints day — September 17
St. Hildegard of Bingen was one of the great mystics of the Middle Ages. Her writings inspired many influential Christians. She also built a new monastery for her growing community of nuns (with running water), corresponded with the pope, advised not only laity but also priests, wrote numerous letters, composed hymns and sacred plays, and still had time to write down the gist of twenty-six of her symbolic visions dealing with relations between God and humanity. Oh yes, she also traveled extensively through Germany.
St. Hildegard was obviously creative, energetic, and very busy. Busy-ness might have been a virtue for St. Hildegard, but it's almost a vice today. We are so accustomed to layering our life with activities that we may feel we have to do at least two things at the same time to be accomplishing anything.
Today, take a break from the busy-ness of life. Toss out all the shoulds, musts, have-to's, along with them, toss out the guilt that says you aren't doing enough. You are accomplishing exactly what you need to accomplish. If you don't get done everything you planned, maybe you planned too much. Just for today, do less rather than more. Life is too short to be wasted in busy-ness
